Vitamin D3 (500iU)

The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus, helping form and maintain strong bones. The two forms of Vitamin D that are important in humans are ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) is the most naturally occurring, bioavailable form of vitamin D and is synthesised in our skin after exposure to ultraviolet-B (UVB) rays from the sun. Our bodies would have enough vitamin D3 if we were exposed to the sun for 15-20 minutes a day. However, because of being indoors often and because of our use of sun block, many individuals may have vitamin D deficiencies. This is why vitamin D3 is commonly referred to as the ‘sunshine’ vitamin. Vitamin D3 is also essential for normal development and maintenance of bones and teeth. Vitamin D2, on the other hand, is synthesised by plants and comes from food sources such as fish (sardines, tuna and mackerel), eggs, fortified milk and cod liver oil.

How the ingredients work

Vitamin D (60caps) plays a dual role, both as a vitamin and a hormone. Vitamin D is a great regulator of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Without this fat-soluble vitamin D, the body cannot properly absorb calcium, and the bones and teeth become soft and poorly mineralised.

Dosage: Take two capsules daily after meals or as prescribed by your healthcare practitioner.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare practitioner for advice.
